Wood Ash & Bio-Char

We love creating free amendments for the garden right at home, it adds nutrients to our food forest, garden, and soil mix. One nutrient is potassium which we know is a vital nutrient for the crops. We also love creating a fire whenever the mosquitos come out for a natural mosquito repellant.

We use biomass from the homestead to  create  carbon-rich  Biochar

We properly manage our live oak hammock and forest. Our land supplies the wood we need for our homestead. We use fallen-down branches and trees, we also plant many fast-growing trees for the future. Bamboo is another one we plant for biomass; we love that it grows back so quickly after selectively cutting it down, we will always have more than enough on our land.

We use pond water to  activate  our Biochar

We're creating a natural ecosystem in our ponds. The water plants provide food and oxygen for our fish as well as clean the water. Our pond water is full of nutrients, one being nitrogen from fish waste.

Our Biochar Recipe:

 -BURN WOOD UNTIL CHARCOAL STAGE
-PUT HOT CHARCOAL IN A METAL PAIL OF POND WATER
-LET SIT OVERNIGHT AND COOL IN THE WATER
-CRUSH UP CHARCOA
L INTO SMALLER CHUNKS

Our Biochar Holds  Nutrients for Thousands of Years
